About Sheila

Greetings! My name is Sheila and I am here to help students to learn critical reading skills, grammar, essay writing as well as French language and literature. I have Masters degrees in both English an French. I also got a 5 on my AP English Literature exam. I can also help with proofreading and developing essays and writing assignments, including essays for college and scholarship applications.

I am a lifelong reader and learner of languages. In addition to English and French, the other languages I know and am still practicing and learning are currently German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Scottish Gaelic. I'm strongest in German, Italian, and Spanish but don't yet feel up to tutoring those subjects yet!

  • I can help with all English subjects, especially grammar and writing. I can also help with writing speeches for competitions and other events. 
  • When I was a graduate student at UCLA, I taught first- and second-year French.
  • When studying French, my specialities were in 18th and 19th century literature, especially the Enlightenment authors like Rousseau, Diderot, and Voltaire. I was working on my doctorate studying Rousseau, but changed career direction and left the PhD program.
  • When studying English, my specialties were in 19th and 20th century literature although I also took a graduate seminar on Jane Austen
