After graduating in 2016, I worked as a Math tutor for 6 months, a few hours per week. This experience improved my abilities as a teacher and communicator a great deal. One of my students had autism, meaning that he had a very different way of learning to most others. It was an incredibly rewarding job, and I became a more flexible, patient and understanding teacher. Since December 2018, I have made tutoring my entire living. I currently teach for 20 hours per week, mostly online, with a wide range of ages and abilities.
I think my main strength as a teacher is that I am a quick thinker. When a student is struggling to understand a concept, I can quickly frame it in a new, more manageable way. Alternatively, if they simply need more practice with something, I am good at generating new examples on the spot. My teaching style involves a lot of practice questions, as I believe this is the best way to truly ingrain the information.
