About Jana
Hi, all! I'm Jana, and I'm the writing tutor you're looking for! I'm a former high school teacher with a master's degree in literature, which means I have been perfecting my reading and writing abilities for almost ten years now! I have 4 years of teaching and tutoring experience and have worked with every type of student from seventh graders writing their first essays to doctoral candidates polishing their dissertations. My favorite part of being a writing tutor is spending one-on-one time with students who, just like me, need another set of eyes on their work or someone to just help them get the dang paper started. I'm not here to judge or criticize your work (or how much you've written so far); I'm here to evaluate where you are, what you need, and how I can best help you. I'm an outgoing neuro-divergent nerd, a struggling perfectionist, and a gal who just loves to read, write, and talk about reading and writing.

Specialities
While I have extensive experience in upper-level writing, I most enjoy helping new writers who are just being introduced to the wins and woes of writing their first essays. Thanks to my experience teaching high school English and tutoring college freshmen, I am especially good at helping students who are new to the writing process and need someone to explain the expectations for different types of writing they are being asked to complete. Similarly, I enjoy helping students who consider themselves "bad" writers because, well, there's no such thing as a bad writer! There's just those who have been given the tools to succeed and those who have yet to find someone to pass those tools on to them. My specialty as a tutor is whatever you need it to be!
