About Alice
Hi! My name is Alice, and I am an English teacher and tutor. Teaching is so meaningful to me, as it allows me to share my love of literature and language with students. My own high school English teacher once told me to be my own light, and, especially because she made such a big impact on me and my sense of self, this is what I aim for when I teach. I want my students to feel capable and empowered, to know that they are usually smarter than they think and that their arguments and ideas are valuable.
I have an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Cape Town (with Distinction) and a BA (Hons) from New York University in Arts and Literature. I have worked for five years at the University of Cape Town, first and foremost as a tutor and, more recently, also as a head tutor and administrator. I have also worked for Studiosity, an Australian online tutoring company and as an editorial assistant for a Taylor and Francis journal.
